Did you know that veterans in the Portland VA health care system are eligible for acupuncture? Dynamic Acupuncture is pleased to be a part of the TriWest Community Care Network of acupuncturists for the Portland VA. At Dynamic Acupuncture, we have been participating providers with the VA community care network, formerly called Veteran’s Choice, for several years, and we have worked with veterans for a wide variety of conditions.
Acupuncture is well-known for providing pain relief for both acute and chronic pain conditions. Many of our veterans are referred to us for chronic pain conditions. After a series of treatments, our patients often experience decreased pain, improved functional abilities, express an improvement in quality of life and are better able to participate in activities that they enjoy.
Our acupuncturists are also trained in the VA’s battlefield acupuncture protocol or BFA. This 5 point ear protocol is very powerful for reducing severe pain. This protocol is widely used in the VA system as well as for active duty service members. Research has found that BFA provides immediate pain relief for 75% of patients. Acupuncture has no side effects and is a wonderful medication-free option for pain relief.
In additional to pain relief, acupuncture is also very effective for helping with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and general emotional well-being. There is another powerful auricular acupuncture protocol call the NADA 5 needle point protocol. All of the acupuncturists at Dynamic Acupuncture are trained in NADA ear acupuncture. This protocol is helpful for addiction recovery, and is also known to reduce symptoms of PTSD. The NADA protocol helps ease emotional stress due to trauma, reduces agitation, and increases calmness.

The VA has streamlined the process for getting a referral for community care acupuncture. TriWest is still involved in the referral process but veterans can now request an acupuncture referral directly from their primary care provider.
Steps for accessing acupuncture care through the VA:
Contact your Primary Care Provider (PCP) to request a referral for acupuncture
Specify that you are requesting care at Dynamic Acupuncture
The VA will process the referral through TriWest, and fax the referral to our office
Once we receive the referral we will call you to schedule an appointment
Come in for your acupuncture appointment! We look forward to working with you!
Please reach out to our office at 503-208-3397 if you have any additional questions about how acupuncture could be a good option for you.
